The Volkswagen Crafter is the largest van that Volkswagen offers. The first generation of this popular commercial vehicle was launched in 2006 and was produced in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. The second generation was introduced in 2017 and is comparable to the MAN TGE. We provide the conversion to a double cabin for both vans.
Thanks to the size of a Volkswagen Crafter, you can use it in many ways. For instance, this van is excellent for a conversion. During such a conversion, you can have your Volkswagen Crafter equipped with a double cab. This means an additional row of seats is installed. This way, you can transport more people while still having enough space for your tools and materials.
Why would you equip your Volkswagen Crafter with a double cabin? After all, you lose some cargo space. However, such a decision can be very interesting, because by making that conversion you instantly have more seating.
This has the advantage that in many situations where you would previously be on the road with two vehicles, you can now manage with one van. This saves fuel, maintenance, and insurance costs, while also taking up less space (both on the road and in parking areas) and emitting less CO2. All in all, a van with a double cabin can be beneficial for your wallet and the environment.
As a car with a commercial license plate, a Volkswagen Crafter with a double cabin was tax beneficial for many years, as you could benefit from tax advantages and a lower tax premium. Unfortunately, starting from 2025, the commercial license plate regulation for entrepreneurs will be abolished. From January 1, 2025, entrepreneurs will have to pay the full BPM (tax on passenger cars and motorcycles) upon purchase.
A Volkswagen Crafter emits more CO2, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter as a delivery van or commercial vehicle than a passenger car. This was the reason for the government to abolish the exemption for cars with a commercial license plate starting in 2025.
From that year, the BPM will be calculated based on CO2 emissions (just like for passenger cars). The rate is 66.90 euros per gram of CO2. It therefore quickly amounts to ten to twenty thousand euros in taxes.
